Story
Halló, Hvernig gengur?
That's right - I have decided to go to Iceland and raise some money for Macmillan - a country that has recently collapsed due to the bankruptcy of the entire Icelandic banking system - I think I may need a little help!!!
"Between 1-9 August 2009, I will be joining around 60 people people trekking over 100km through Iceland's dramatic landscapes as part of Macmillan's Iceland Hiking Challenge. The 9 day challenge will take us through wild volcanic landscapes, mountains and waterfalls. It promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge as we will be trekking and camping in remote conditions. The event, and the months of preparation, will be tough but I am doing this in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support."
In reality, I don't like walking, I like taxis and McDonalds! But that's exactly why I want to do this - it's a crazy idea and people do crazy things everyday to raise money for Macmillan. Everyday 739 people in the UK are told they have cancer. On 26/02/04 I was one of those people, at the tender age of 18 (sob story working yet?) In truth, Macmillan helped me massively through the toughest time of my life - my Macmillan nurse, a wealth of quality information on my illness and much needed grants as I was a poor student (and still am!)
"More than one million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis, and more than one in three of us will be diagnosed at some time in their life. As well as taking action today to support people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan are shaping the future of cancer care. Their increasing range of services, including Macmillan nurses, doctors and other health and social care professionals, cancer care centres, a range of cancer information, practical help at home and help with money, is funded entirely through the generosity of their supporters. Thanks to the support they receive, Macmillan provides the practical and emotional support which makes a real difference to people living with cancer today - and tomorrow."
I know from personal experience how much Macmillan can help. I would do anything to help somebody in a similar situation, so please help me to help Macmillan help us all.
