On the 13 July I will be competing in 2008 Switzerland Ironman in Zurich. I foolishly committed myself to the event back in December and have been training ever since.
The Ironman is regarded as one of the toughest endurance events in the world, comprising of:
Swim – 2.4 miles
Bike – 112 miles
Run – 26.2 miles (a marathon)
You have 17 hours to finish the event!
I am hoping to split any money raised between two great organisations in my homecounty ofHerefordshire.
- The Taste for Adventure Centre was set-up by Brummie Stokes to help less privileged young people find personal achievement through outdoor activities.- I am aiming to raise money to enable 30 underprivileged children to attend the adventure course and pay for new safety equipment. http://www.tasteforadventure.co.uk/
- Brockhampton Cricket Club is at the heart of Herefordshire’s cricket scene. It has produced numerous county standard players and plays a huge part in cricket development within the region. The club has a thriving youth section which caters for over 50 juniors. - I am aiming to raise money to buy new equipment for the youth section of the club and help support the coaching team. http://brockhampton.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp
In order to complete the Ironman I have committed to over 10 hours training per week minimum, reaching 20 hours at peak times. As you can imagine, I have forgone anything resembling a social life for the next couple of months!
Any donation you can give, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes.
Tom
