Update: Well it is all over. Leaving John O'Groats seems a rather long time ago but to roll in to Lands End this evening was such a relief. Unfortunately I did not meet the challenged 4 days of cycling, however after heavy head winds in Scotland and southern England the trip was extended to 6 days. I can honestly say I was pushed psychologically more than any endurance event I have ever taken on, and the next few days will require a lot of recovery time. I would like to thank all those people who supported me throughout, from the support team, to all those texts of encouragement. Thank you to all who have sponsored, I greatly appreciate it! :D
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. It is here that I will be providing details about the challenge I am undertaking, and all the updates on training and sponsorship.
John O’Groats to Lands End: This is a challenge which many people every year undertake and accomplish in the name of various charities, both local and national. I first took up the challenge two years ago with two school friends and completed it over a course 12 days. We managed to raise £3000 pounds for our three individual charities and the experience of cycling the length of the country is one which I will always remember. This time I have decided to take a slightly altered route with the aim to complete the challenge in 4 days. This will mean that the average mileage per day will be around 210. I am hoping that this will prove to be a real challenge and as a result raise greater funds for my chosen charity.
My Charity: The charity which I have chosen to cycle for is CAN which operates locally within the Midlands, and its aims are to help those who suffer from alcohol and drug addiction. The reasons for my choice to raise money for CAN are because I feel that there is little awareness to the long term dangers of alcohol abuse, and also few services around the country for those alcoholics who are in desperate need of help. It is a problem which few people understand, as on the face it appears to be self inflicted. However, those like me who have witnessed it at first hand will realise that alcoholism is a deadly disease which torments the mind and then later cripples the body. My father underwent such difficulties and at the time there were little services to aid him. Therefore I hope to raise a minimum of £5000 to help raise attention to the dangers of addiction, and provide opportunities to those who are currently suffering.
Thanks very much for reading my page, any amount of money which you see fit to donate will be greatly appreciated by myself, and those at CAN.
