Fundraising for The Aplastic Anaemia Trust
Story
It's that time of year again.... another team of lunatics from Tomkins have agreed to submerge themselves in the serpentine (1km swim), run around Hyde Park (10km), and then take on the French traffic with a cycle around the outskirts of Paris (80km)! FYI = 10km is 6.2 miles.
This event is NO EASY CHALLENGE - we work very hard to get the fitness required for the event. And why do we do it? To support the AAT!
The AAT is a fantastic charity, which relies totally on donations from the public. Please see http://www.theAAT.org.uk to see some of the fantastic things that the charity has been able to achieve with proceeds from the event. Since the triathlon started over a decade ago, the survival-rates of patients treated at St. George's Hospital has dramatically increased - but until the survival rate is 100% there is more work to do, and this needs to be funded by public support.
The AAT was started in 1985, and with the Trust's help a specialist unit was founded at St. George's Hospital, London UK. This has become the national centre for study and treatment of the disease, with 80% of AA sufferers using St. George's.
Every penny that you give will go directly to SAVING LIVES. Because Aplastic Anaemia is so rare, the AAT do not attract the same interest or funding as major charities. The AAT are TOTALLY DEPENDANT on funds raised by charitable efforts.
Members of the Tomkins team are trying to smash our record for team fund-raising for the AAT, and to do this, we REALLY need your support! This year, the AAT wish to expand the Ruth Myles Day Unit at St. George's Hospital in Tooting so they can treat even more patients with aplastic anaemia and maintain high standards of clinical care. In total, this year's triathlon needs to raise over £200,000 to complete this objective, please help us. Please dig deep and sponsor us on-line.
