Imagine you were in a road traffic accident which resulted in a spinal cord injury.

Spinal Cord Injury has a devastating effect on the 1,200 people who become paralysed each year.

It could happen to any of us, when playing sport, in the workplace or a road traffic accident.

Through its projects and programs, Aspire offers practical support to the 40,000 people living with a spinal cord injury so that they can lead fulfilled and independent lives in their homes, with their families, in work-places and leisure time.

Their centre in Stanmore also houses a superb sports facility where the UK’s 2012 parolympians are currently training.

Aspire's work is invaluable. Their support has a tremendous effect throughout the . Unlike some of the large charities they have a small management structure so monies donated are directly distributed to those they support rather than getting caught up with administrative and managerial costs.

For this reason I have chosen to offer them my support by climbingAfrica’s tallest mountain, and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain - Kilimanjaro. One in three fail to reach the top because at 19,330 ft the breathable oxygen at the top is less than half the amount than is common at sea level. Don’t be fooled by Moyles and co – they are full of hot air and thus rose much faster than average humans. I don’t expect it to be a pushover.

So next time you tell a charity street fundraiser you haven’t got the time to stop (we’ve all done it) I’d be really grateful if you redeemed yourself by sponsoring me for this great cause.
