On December the 23rd 2007 I was party to an unfortunate Mountain Biking accident, where i broke 4 vertebrae in my spine, fortunately my spinal column (The part that has my nerves in it) was still intact. I was sent to the The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital in Gobowen, Oswestry where all the doctors and nurses made a massive impact to a speedy recovery for myself.
During my stay I shared my room with a guy also called Tom (Shelley), coincidentally of the same age, who had broken his back in a car accident. While there we decided it would be great, when we were back on our feet, to do something for the hospital to raise money as they took such good care off us. So to therefore show our appreciation and support for the hospital I (along with a few friends including Tom) have decided to do the Three Peaks Challenge, where the three highest peaks in the U.K are climbed all within a 24hr period!
After 6 weeks in traction I was back on my feet, a further six weeks in a full torso cast and lots of physio i was back to work. A huge relief! and all thanks to the hard work and commitment of the staff at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital. 1 and a half years later and i am ready to do the challenge!
The staff carry out amazing work for many others much less fortunate than myself on a life long basis. The ward is also heavily funded by charity to help keep such an amazing standard of care. The hard work and commitment shown is simply outstanding.
Any donation given however large or small would be massively appreciated and put to a great cause supporting the sterling work carried out at this hospital, providing equiptment and source to carry on the support needed for those who have suffered spinal injury.
We have completed the challenge! All of the team completed the walk within 24 hrs! A massive effort from everyone who took part! Starting Saturday at 3 in the afternoon with fine weather and great views for Ben Nevis, moving on to Scafell Pike for a very bleak night in the clouds difficult conditions where we got lost a few times! and then finishing 2.35 on the Sunday in a windy downpour for Snowdon. A huge effort made by everyone to get the challenge completed and a great achievement for us all.
Big thanks to my brother Sam for driving and Burnt tree for letting us use their mini bus, anyone that has sponsored us already and everyone that will sponsor us at a later date!
