I am running the London Marathon in Memory of my little mate Morgan Brennan Fisher, who sadly passed away after a brave fight on 23rd July 2008, aged just 2 1/2 years old. We would like to raise as much money as possible for COSMIC (Children of St Mary’s Intensive Care) as the help and support they gave Morgan and his parents Jenny and Keith was amazing. If we can raise enough money to buy a piece of equipment for the unit, it would be a lasting tribute to such a brave young man, and a great help to other children fighting serious illnesses.
Morgan was born on 5th September 2005, he was born with a rare genetic condition called Geleophysic Dysplasia. This condition affected his heart, lungs and his growth. He spent much of his short life in hospital, he was first admitted to St Mary’s PICU in December 2006, and on Christmas Day suffered a cardiac arrest, it took nine minutes to restart his heart, and thereafter spent many weeks on a ventilator, he won that fight and was back to his cheeky self in no time. In October 2007 he again caught an infection and was ventilated in The Royal Brompton Hospital, his lungs started to fail and his only chance of survival was to go on an ECMO machine which takes over the work of the heart and lungs. The only machine available was in Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, he was flown up to Scotland by the RAF, it was touch and go as to whether he would make it up there but again he showed his fighting spirit and made it there, he returned from Scotland after three weeks and made an amazing recovery AGAIN. In May 2008 he was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital and again had to be ventilated, after a brave 62 day fight he sadly lost the battle.
