About my charity : Cornwall Hospice Care Cornwall Hospice Care
Cornwall Hospice Care provides care and support throughout Cornwall, for people living with life-threatening illnesses, their families and carers, not only in our two hospices - St Julia’s in Hayle and Mt Edgcumbe in St Austell - but also in outreach centres across the county. Last year, nearly 500 people benefited from over 7,400 bed days, receiving treatment to alleviate pain and control symptoms. The care given to patients and their families is provided free of charge, but costs us over £5 million annually (£10 a minute). Only 13% of this is funded by the government which means that we rely heavily on the generous support of the general public, donations, challenges and fundraising events. All the money we raise stays in Cornwall.

My personal message:

Many of you reading this will know what a brave 10 year fight Gill fought against breast cancer. During those 10 years Gill had a " wish list " the majority of which we achieved , although one , to visit Machu Picchu  Peru , was sadly never realised. It is uncanny that Cornwall Hospice Care have arranged a sponsored trek to Machu Picchu in May 2008. Gill spent her last weeks at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice so it is only fitting that the wonderful support and care she and I received during those painful weeks should in some way be acknowledged by yours truly attempting the trek , and whilst Gill will not be with me physically she will in sprit and hopefully one more tick on the " wish list " whilst at the same time raising valuable funds for such a worthwhile cause. My training partners in the picture are going to ensure that I will be fit enough to endure the challenge at altitude, although walking the beautiful North Cornish coast is not quite at 4000 metres !!!

UPDATES ................................................................

Thanks to Barry and Jen who cut down on their Christmas card expenses for 2007 and donated the savings £300 to my fund.

Thanks to the Golden Lion Padstow for holding a quiz night on Sunday 13th Jan, and thanks to all those who attended making it a full house, with £500 raised toward my fund ( £300 on the raffle !!)

On the 26th January a successful FUN FROLICS and FOOD evening was held at St Petroc's Church Hall Padstow. The evening was supported by 100 people who enjoyed Bangers and Mash, games and entertainment by my good friend, comedian and after dinner speaker Barry Williams. A total of £3035.00 was raised from this event, many thanks to all who supported the evening, to those who donated the many raffle prizes, and to the people and businesses who donated the food. Thanks to Padstow Sailing Club members for preparing and cooking the food, and St Petroc's Church for providing the venue.

Thanks to Merlin Golf Club for holding the quiz night on Friday 7th March, thanks to all who attended and special thanks to quizmaster Carol. Total raised on the evening £390.

Thanks to Mel and George, their 500 piece jigsaw of Machu Picchu has now been completed (24th April) each piece sold for £1 total raised £500, not one piece lost on it's travels !!!

Limited edition prints of Gill's pastel pictures have so far raised £460, just a few left now, anyone interested please get in touch www.tonyrickard66@btinternet.com
