Story
Hiya and thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Its abseil time again and the chosen charity is Arthritis Research. For those of you who know me and my fondness for children, I am promoting the side of this charity which caters for kids with the disease. This is called The Noddy Appeal.
The facts are that more than 7 million people in the UK have long term health problems with a condition related to arthritis. Many others have it in a less serious form, however 206 million working days are lost each year due to it. It is the 2nd most common cause of time off work for both men and women. What amazes a lot of people is that 1 in every 1000 kids will have a childhood form of arthritis, belying the perception that this is a disease that only affects the elderly. Whether young or old, 50% of the people who live with arthritis say the worst aspect is the pain.
The building you see on your left is the Royal Liver Building which is situated on the Liverpool waterfront. Constructed almost 100 years ago,it stands at 295' and is dominated by the 2 clock towers. The 25' clock faces - larger than those of Big Ben - were used by passing mariners to tell the time. The most famous part of the building are the famous Liver Birds that sit on each clock tower. Rumour has it that if these flew away, then the city would cease to exist. Local legend has it that 1 bird looks inland to protect the city and the other looks out at sea to welcome sailors. Alternative local legend states that one bird is male and looks inland to see if the pubs are open and the other is female looking out for handsome sailors!!!!!!
So despite still scared stiff of all heights over 20', I am planning to launch myself 210' off this building on 22 June 2008 at 11.30am for this great cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Arthritis Research Campaign - The Noddy Appeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
I really appreciate everyone who has visited this site and taken the time to read my message and I will let you know how I get on!
So please sponsor me now and many thanks for your support!!!!
Tony
