Toybox is celebrating its 15th birthday! To mark this, I'm hoping that we can raise £15,000 to help change the lives of 1500 street children in Latin America. To do this, I need 1500 people to donate just £10 to Toybox. I am hoping to find these people through Facebook, JustGiving, the Toybox website and other media.
I have seen first-hand the difference Toybox is making in the lives of street children in Latin America. When I was 12 years old, Toybox visited my youth group and told us about the children. I was instantly touched and decided I needed to do something to help... I waited a while, and then did a Gap year with Toybox when I was 18. I spent 4 months in Guatemala, working with the street team and in children's homes.
I met Blanca in one of the homes. She was a 17-year-old girl who had come from struggling to survive on the streets to becoming a beautician. She graduated from her course while I was there, and she had the chance to give a speech at her graduation ceremony. All she did was say 'thank you'. Thank you to El Castillo (a partner of Toybox in Guatemala), thank you to her house-parents, thank you to God. She knew that without Toybox there she wouldn't have stood a chance of becoming a beautician. She may not even have been alive.
Toybox exists to give hope and opportunities to children and young people like Blanca. I know the work Toybox does is making a huge difference; wouldn't it be great if we could celebrate their 15th year by changing the lives of 1500 children?
