When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My mum had an AVM (arteriovenous malformation) on her brain. This is basically a tangle of abnormal arteries and veins. These first burst causing a haemorrhage when she was just 27 years old. After brain surgery, Radiotherapy and Physiotherapy she continued on with her life albeit with Epilepsy and left sided weakness. She later needed further brain surgery due to an infection.

On 15th March 2007, Mum had another bleed on her brain. She was taken into surgery to try to stop the huge bleed. After surgery, Mum was put into an induced coma to try to help her brain heal. On 20th March, A doctor and nurse sat my dad, brother, sister and myself down and told us the news we were fearing - Mum would never wake up!

A priest was called in to administer the 'Last Rites' and we said our goodbyes to my amazing mum. She died the next day on 21st March 2007.

Please, please, please help me to raise funds for the Stroke association to help others who may be going through the same thing and to maybe help in the research into treatments of this condition. Many Thanks. Tracy.
