Pre-eclampsia is the most common of the serious pregnancy conditions, affecting one pregnancy in 10 or 70,000 women each year. Action on Pre-Eclampsia aims to raise public and professional awareness, improve care and ease or prevent physical and emotional suffering caused by this potentially devastating condition.

My personal message:

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  I have participated in sponsored swims before, but this will be my first long distance swim in open water. 

The Inaugural Bupa Great North Swim (www.greatnorthswim.org) is taking place this September in Lake Windermere over a course distance of 1 mile.  Despite the requirement to wear wet suits, I think it is still going to be a little chilly!

I am asking you to help me raise money for Action on Pre-Eclampsia.  This is a charity close to my heart as it was Pre-Eclampsia which resulted in Joshua's early arrival and the additional complications of HELLP syndrome which extended my stay in hospital.  Nick and I were lucky and Joshua was only born a month early, and I made a full recovery, however some babies are born acutely premature and some mothers are not so fortunate. 

The cause of Pre-Eclampsia and its associated complications are still not known and yet it has potentially serious consequences for both the mother and baby. Please visit www.apec.org.uk for more information.
