Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am proud to be taking part again in the ladies' tractor road run, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
As most of you know, I took part in my first tractor road run after Ben and I brought back a tractor from a holiday in Holland. I promised him that I'd take part if he did the tractor up. He spent most of that winter in a draughty shed getting covered in oil and grease, but the tractor was in tip top condition in July. Since then the collection has grown to three vintage tractors with another one hopefully joining the family very soon.
As most of you also know, my own mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in 2007. I had never heard of pancreatic cancer at the time and it took a good year for me to realise that the outlook is usually very bleak. After a long operation she made a full recovery though and back in November last year we celebrated 5 years survival. In the meantime she's also battled breast cancer, and yet again she has recovered from that. She thinks she has a guardian angel on both shoulders!
Ben's own mum died of breast cancer shortly before I met Ben. My grandmother-in-law suffered from breast cancer twice but recovered. A good friend from WeightWatchers was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer and is doing well after treatment.
When I tell people about taking part in the tractor road run and why, most people have a story of their own to tell. Almost everybody has been touched by cancer one way or another. My mum was very lucky, survival rates are increasing all the time, but much work needs to be done still if cancer is to stop being that dreaded word. And that work costs money, which is why I'm asking you to consider making a donation.
