The Mongol Rally 2009 · 18 July 2009 ·

Mercy Corps is helping communities prosper through clean water, food, livelihoods and hope. Together, we are a global force for change, standing with families facing poverty, conflict and climate crisis. In September, Mercy Corps will become Prosper Global, a new name reflecting our global mission.

Story

Greg, Karmel, Bernard, Claire, Carl, Gali, Matt, Jess and Peter are taking part at this year's Mongol Rally (www.mongolrally.theadventurists.com).

The concept of the Mongol Rally is pretty simple. We will be driving a third of the way around the earth, from Europe to via a plethora of countries most people haven't heard of in three cheap and unsuitable cars that have an engine size no bigger than 1 liter. Starting on the 18th July 2009, from London the rally finishes in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator around four weeks and a whole heap of adventure later.

And the point of all this carbon burning? You may well ask. We aim to raise thousands of pounds for the Mercy Corps Mongolia (http://www.mercycorps.org.uk/countries/mongolia). The Mercy Corps is a great charity, who has been in working with local NGOs since 2001. The Mercy Corps act as facilitators and endorsers of local projects, and strive to encourage community collaboration and fulfill dire health and economic needs. Additionally at the end of the trip the car (or what is left of it) is given to a charity.

Just to make it clear: all the money which you donate goes straight to the charity and the cost of the car and other expenses are borne by the team.

We happily answer any question you have about the Rally or you can visit: http://mongolrally.theadventurists.com/index.php

The adventure would lead us through the following countries: UK > France > Belgium > Germany >Czech > Slovakia > Hungary >Romania > Bulgaria > Turkey > Armenia >Azerbaijan > Ferry across the Caspian Sea to Turkmenistan > Uzbekistan > Kasakhstan > Russia > Mongolia.
