TransAlp Challenge 2004 · 29 June 2004

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Update: After 8 days, 665 kilometres, 22,640 metres of ascent and over 51 hours in the saddle Peter and I completed the 2004 TransAlp challenge. See http://members.lycos.co.uk/carriecarruthers/transalp

TransAlp - Toughest mountain bike race in the world - for charity. http://transalp.upsolutmv.com/en/ For those of you that don't know me I am a Computing Lecturer at University College Northampton. In 2001, myself and colleague Brian Thompson raised £1250's for the MS Society when we cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End in 9.5 days. Between the 17th and 24th of July 2004 I will be competing with Peter Brown (Reading) as a veteran men's team in what is widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world. To give you an idea of the magnitude of this undertaking, it is a stage mountain bike race over 8 days incorporating over 22,600 meters (74,000 feet) of climbing (over two and a half times the height of Everest) in comparison with the Tour de France takes in 28,000 meters of climbing in 3 weeks. The distance covered is to be round 650 km (406 miles). The race starts in the Bavarian Alps, Germany, continues through the Stubai Alps, Austria, the Swiss Alps, the Italian Dolomites before finishing on the shores of Lake Garda! The aim is to finish the race and raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. In the meantime should you require any further information about the vital work the Society undertakes, please do not hesitate to contact the MS Society on: Tel 0808 800 8000, Email webinfoenquiries@mssociety.org.uk or Web www.mssociety.org.uk Thank you for taking the time to read this (and hopefully for your pledge).
