I am going to run the BUPA Great Manchester 10k Run, Sun 18th May,  to raise funds for the ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY.

The Alzheimers Society is a charity that relies on the generosity of the public to provide, care services, research funds, and campaigns for improved health and social care and greater public awareness and understanding of dementia.

Did You Know.

Over 700,000 people in the UK have dementia, more than half have Alzheimers.

1 in 3 older people will end their lives with dementia.

Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, heart disease and strokes.

1 in 6 people over the age of 80 are affected by dementia.

1 in 20 people aged 70-80 are affected by dementia.

And there are 15,000 younger people with dementia.

WHY AM I DOING THIS.

I have a very good friend, Peter, he's a year older than me, 67, with whom I used to ski with, play squash with, go to the pub with and generally party and socialise with.

I MISS ALL THAT.

That as gone, as he now needs 24/7 care.  Alzheimers not only affects the one with it but their whole family and friends. In Peters case, his wife, his two sons and their wives and his grandaughters who don't understsnd why " Grandad is like that "
