Story

All being well, I'll be running 3 marathons this year.

          London: 25/4/10          Edinburgh: 23/5/10          Berlin: 26/9/10

After slightly missing my target in the London Marathon last year, I've been thinking carefully about how I'm going to train this time. I don't want to take the same approach as I did then, not only because I didn't get the result I wanted, but also because it kinda took over my life a little bit. And now there's the added bodily onslaught of running the second marathon 4 weeks after the first, for which I hope to still have some legs left. So here's the plan...

I'm going to try and completely forget about time and pace and just concentrate on putting in the miles. I'll only be doing 3 running sessions a week, made up of the long steady run, a recovery run a day or 2 after that, plus one other quality session - either the 5km parkrun or maybe up to 10km on the treadmill, depending how I feel. In addition, I'll be doing one cross training session a week, pilates or weights. That means no speed work. No mile reps, no hill repeats, no fartleks. What a shame.

A secondary challenge I've set myself is to try and run 1 mile for every pound of my fundraising target, during 2010. That's 1400 miles. I'm logging how far I've run on my website and you can check my progress by going to www.triplemarathon.com/mileometer.html. I'll also keep the site updated with the latest on how my training is going, plus there's a message board so you can leave me your very own customised message of support :-)

Of course you can also do that here but you have to make a donation to do that. Having run for UK based charities on the last 2 occasions, this time I'm running for an African charity, AbleChildAfrica, who work with disabled and young people throughout Africa to improve their access to health care, education and employment opportunities. If you're reading this there's a good chance you've supported me in the past and I'm definitely aware of how much I've appealed to the same people over the years. Frankly, I think I've asked enough of you and would be happy just to get a good luck post on my message board, but if you'd like to donate to my fund anyway, you know how grateful I'll be.

Cheers, thanks for reading, it's always appreciated.
John
