At The Seafarers’ Charity, we’ve been improving the lives of seafarers and their families for over 106 years. We started as the King George’s Fund for Sailors, providing vital assistance in troubled times. Today, we’re guided by the same powerful vision.

Story

HMS Pickle was one of the smallest ships at the Battle of Trafalgar and the first to bring news of Nelson's victory and sad demise. Upon landing at Falmouth, Lt Lapenotiere, commander of The Pickle, took a 37 hour journey by horse drawn carriage to London to deliver the dispatches of Nelson's successor, Vice Admiral Collingwood, to the Admiralty.

The Pickle Challenge will give your team the opportunity to retrace the gruelling 285 mile journey undertaken by Lt Lapenotiere. Relying on pedal rather than horse power, we too will set off from the Quayside at Falmouth, cycle to London and finally gather under the gaze of Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square. A tough event, but still only half of the challenge - in addition our fundraising target will be set at £2,500 which will be used to provide valuable support to seafarers and their families.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Seafarers UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
