The Battery Hen Welfare Trust is the UKs only registered charity for laying hens and was established in order to raise awareness of the 19 million hens currently kept in cages in the UK. To date the BHWT have re-homed over 100,000 ex-battery hens into free range retirement homes.

My story

Hi guys!

Why am I doing this? I haven't run anywhere for over a year, so the thought of running for a bus - let alone doing a proper 10k run - is very scary! But, my chickens are the best thing - nosy, chatty & full of fun, if still a little bald! Best of all, they still lay like crazy & don't ask for much in return! How could they be written off after just one miserable year at a battery farm?

Well they don't have to be. Thanks to the Battery Hen Welfare Trust, these animals can have a happy retirement in loving homes. As a shining example of someone who gets puffed out going up the stairs, training for this run will be an enormous effort for me, being only 3 months after having Tallulah. So, your contributions will be well deserved & very much appreciated!
