My story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Who is involved?

12 friends from all walks of life have joined together to complete a gruelling triathlon in Cheshire on the 31 May 2009. We will complete a 500m swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run.

Competitors

Stuart Laidlaw, Gordon Laidlaw, Michael Thompson, Michael Scott, James Saxton, Andy Belk, Andy Wathey, Sam Leeder, Johnny Clarke, Lee Pugh, Rob Wadsworth and Paul Wheeler

Why are we doing it?

We are doing this to raise awareness of Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). The money we raise will help TAMBA to provide much needed support to the parents and families who are diagnosed with this. This will enable TAMBA to provide support and advice to parents and clinicians that at present is not widely available in the UK.

What is TTTS?

Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) is a disease of the placenta (or afterbirth) that affects identical twin pregnancies. TTTS affects identical twins (or higher multiple gestations) who share a common monochorionic placenta. The shared placenta contains abnormal blood vessels which connect the umbilical cord and circulations of the twins. The common placenta may also be shared unequally by the twins. The events in pregnancy that lead to TTTS are all random. TTTS is not hereditary or genetic, nor caused by anything the parents did or did not do. TTTS can happen to anyone.

Why TTTS?

In Novemeber 2008, Jo and Stuart Laidlaw lost their twin boys (Matthew and Jonathan) at 25 weeks to TTTS. This diagnosis made us aware that although we received fantastic treatment by the specialists, help, advice and much needed guidance was difficult to find in the UK.

Sponsorship

With various levels of fitness this triathlon is sure to test the stamina of us all. We are all in training, well most of us! There is already banter started about how we will all do.

Please visit our facebook page for updates and banter. Facebook group 'TTTS triathlon - Cheshire 31 May 2009'

We hope you feel that the endurance test and us having to wear 'speedos' is encouragement enough for you to sponsor us.

Many thanks for your kind donation.

(Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: TAMBA (Twins & Multiple Births Association) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation).
