About my charity
:
Sailors’ Society
The Sailors' Society provides a personal lifeline for seafarers on board and when they step ashore. Existing to enrich and enhance the well-being of seafarers in port through its Port Chaplains and centres, seafarers are offered practical help and wellfare, spiritual support and when in dire need, financial assistance and family liason. Our Port Chaplains visit thousands of ships during the year and are often the first to notice when all is not well on board.
Reaching out to crew members of all ranks, without distinction for race, denomination, ethnic background or nationality, the Chaplains of the Sailors' Society offer a friendly presence, unconditionally greeting seafarers where they meet them. Working in a hundred ports and 30 countries the Chaplains regularly visit ships to dispense phone cards, news print from home, local knowledge, or transport to crews in nearby centres where facilities such as telephone and internet access are available.

| My personal message: |
On 21-22nd June, Team Tufton will be taking part in the Cargill Three Peaks Challenge. It will involve 40 teams of elite athletes coming from throughout the shipping industry and Team Tufton as well! The teams are competing to climb three of the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in the fastest time: this year the challenge is to climb Ben Nevis, Helvellyn and Snowdon approx. 3400m vertical climbing and 24 mile running/walking/hobbling - all within 24 hours. The team is Max Bezance, Chris Pretorius and Tom Bezance pounding the mountains. On paper we are looking pretty good. Each team is required to raise £5,000, and the funds raised will be put to immediate use in caring for the seafarers that the British & International Sailors' Society (BISS) serves. BISS provides practical help and support to the world’s 1.5 million seafarers; their port chaplains visit thousands of ships throughout the year and are often the first to notice when all is not well onboard. BISS provides counselling when tragedy strikes, a home from home in Seafarers’ Centres and a place of rest in their home for retired seafarers. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to help us to support such a worthwhile cause: Sailors’ Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Team Tufton.
