FRANK Water Projects - Rickshaw Run Winter 2013 · 1 January 2013 ·
Ever since completing a trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal in 2010, I've dreamt of going to India. The living conditions I saw made me re-evaluate the way I wanted to travel and I resolved that my next trip would involve a way for me to give back to the community I would be visiting. Enter the Rickshaw Run - a 3500 km race in India which raises money for charities there. It is the perfect marriage of "do-gooding" and adventure. Add in a couple of friends, Richard Gong and Brianna Hamlin, and together we have signed up as team Tuk Tuk Goose for the Rickshaw Run Winter 2013.
The charity we've chosen to sponsor is called Frank Water, an organization that is undertaking to bring clean water to the millions of Indians that don't have access to it. I got a first hand taste of what it was like to drink contaminated water when I was in Nepal, and to summarize - it sucked. I was fortunate enough not to end up in a hospital but it took antibiotics to cure whatever infection I had contracted. Imagine if becoming infected was a chance you took every time you had a drink of water, or made a meal. It's a reality for the 128 million people in India that lack safe water and having made a difference for 400,000 Indians to date, Frank Water is making real contributions towards improving the lives of people living in poverty.
As team Tuk Tuk Goose, we have set a goal to raise $10,000 CAD for Frank Water and we are asking you to help us. Your donations go directly to Frank Water and you will be helping to give a basic right to people who are in desperate need.
