Story
Hi all,
Donate to my upcoming effort here : www.justgiving.com/jamesjukes.
Thank you for clicking through to my fundraising page. As you may know, I completed my first Great North Run in a time of 1 hour 27 minutes, which means I beat Olympian and Commonwealth 400M GB champion Iwan Thomas. I was actually aiming for between 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 25 minutes, but made a few mistakes in not getting away from the pack in the first few miles, and getting carried away with a high tempo 5 mile run the day before the race. As a result James Cracknell trounced me by 7 minutes!
I chose to run for Grace House Children's Hospice because I feel it is a cause that is somewhat neglected, and certainly one that is overshadowed by the higher profile charities that have much bigger budgets. Did you know that the North East has the lowest number of hospice beds for children in the whole country? Grace House North East was set up to provide a 'home from home' for all the very sick children across the region. The hospice will provide a wide range of support for families, offer respite and terminal care, and have a team of dedicated professionals offering their most up to date medical skills and palliative care. In other words it will offer some desperately needed support to the families that are coping with an extremely difficult situation 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
I cannot think of a better cause, and I will also be putting my own money where my mouth is by making donations from my companies CheaperWaste and Tup Tup Palace. Please give as much as you can, and in return I promise to train even harder next year and beat my PB. Click here to view my official GNR time or here to view my training history on Runkeeper Pro
Thanks,
James
