Lochaber Mountain Rescue team is Scotland's busiest team, often carrying out more than 150 rescues a year. Run entirely by volunteers we rely on your generous donations to allow us to help those in need.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to donate to a great cause on behalf of myself and all my family.  My Dad loved Fort William and went every year in his caravan with my Mum to enjoy Scotland, the mountains and to have a well deserved break away.  Their caravan was at the bottom of Ben Nevis and the site people loved seeing him; he was given his 'favourite' spot each year.

The spot gave him a view of Ben Nevis from top to bottom.  He loved watching folk from all over the world take on Ben Nevis and sadly not all could come down without help from the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and the local mountain rescue helicopter crew with helicopter!

My dad took me up to the top of Ben many years ago, which I remember 'fondly' as I couldn't walk to two days!  The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team is a registered charity and relies heavily on public donations to assist with annual running costs.

LMRT was set up in the late 1960s by local climbers to help fellow climbers in difficulties on the mountains of Lochaber and especially on Ben Nevis. It was and still is today entirely made up of unpaid volunteers, with the current membership standing at approximately forty men and women of various ages from early twenties to early sixties.

What does LMRT do?

At the request of the local police, LMRT attend incidents that are remote from the road side where the normal emergency services are unable to operate. These incidents vary from rescuing a climber stuck on the sheer North Face of Ben Nevis to a canoeist stuck in an inaccessible gorge.

Who do they help?

LMRT does not only help climbers and hill walkers, although this is the main group who are assisted. We attend incidents involving back country skiers, cyclists and canoeists who are in a remote area or in an inaccessible location that requires rope-work to extricate them.

I appreciate any support that is given to the team and would like thank you so much for giving any size donation for this worthwhile cause in aid of my Dad's memory.  Wish me and my 3 lovely boys and lovely Abi Blake good luck!

Thank you x
