My story
Time was when I was accused of having 'designer mud' on my boots. Now I'm walking from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay in aid of mountain rescue. And I've even managed to rope fellow 'twirlie' Gail Todd into the challenge! You can follow our adventures on the blog at http://twirliesontour.blogspot.com/
Gail and I are both members of the Rossendale and Pendle team, in Lancashire. She's at the sharp end, I'm not (although I was team secretary for seven years.)
As editor of Mountain Rescue Magazine I've been privileged to meet mountain rescuers across the UK and they're a remarkable bunch of people! Men and women who give their time (on a daily basis in some areas – sometimes several times a day!) to go to the aid of those in distress on the hills and mountains. On call 24/7, whatever the weather.
They are all volunteers in what is still, uniquely, an entirely voluntary service. Your donation will help them continue doing what they do.
We've been very kindly sponsored by both Paramo and Whalley Warm and Dry (with more Paramo kit) – so a big than you to them for their support (and faith in our continuing ability to keep putting one foot in front of the other!!)
Now, here's the blurb...
...donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Mountain Rescue England and Wales and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for mountain rescue.
So dig deep friends, dig deep – because, trust me, it will be real mud this time!
