 I am supporting this particular charity in memory of two former friends and colleagues who died while climbing. Tim Harper died on April 22, 2001, when he fell 700ft down No.4 Gully on Ben Nevis when a cornice collapsed. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team managed to stretcher him to a chopper from RAF Lossiemouth and to hospital in Glasgow, but he passed away. He was just 38 years old. Trevor Walls, died while climbing Buachaille Etive Mhor in Glencoe on July 9, 2004. He had been doing an extraordinary kind thing – a solo climb to stash a bottle of champagne for a friend’s 50 birthday surprise, in advance of a planned climbing party the following day. His body was later recovered by Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team. Wallsie was 51. Both were generous, kind and funny men. And if still here today, they’d be ripping the absolute piss out of me and Pope for this little venture. Then handing over £20....
