Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of you may be aware, myself and a good friend Helen will be walking the full 87 miles of Hadrians Wall across the course of 4 days in September 2010.

My chosen charity is the St Albans Special Olympics organisation.

Special Olympics St Albans runs sports sessions for individuals with a learning disability in the St Albans City and District area. They aim to support our athletes in building confidence, self esteem and skill levels as well as competing against other athletes in local, regional and national Special Olympics events. Being able to access these events plays such a big part in the individuals life which means it is vital the money comes in to allow funding for extra equipment to give full access.

The Boccia session in particular is in need of some extra equipment to allow the participants with Cerebal Palsy join in and play the games just like everyone else. The sports allow the participants with learning disabilities, the opportunity to develop social skills and build friendships through the interaction and team spirit of their sports training and competition.

The SOSA are always in need for fundraising and volunteers, and without these, the adults with Learning Disabilities aren't able to attend the sessions.
