Two knackered old blokes and a boat
Yes - weve done it. With the help of our lovely support crew we made it from Devizes to bridge in 28 hours and 56 minutes.
We came in 111th (there were 135 finishers out of 182 starting boats for the Senior Doubles race ).
Thats 125 miles, 77 portages, 90,000 paddle strokes (each), 2lbs of banana cake, 10 litres of carb energy drink and numerous pork pies and sandwiches.
We cant pretend it was easy. The last few miles were particularly long and arduous, which means the generosity of our sponsors even more appreciated.
And a big thank-you to everyone who came to cheer us on – and of course our vital support crew of Jackie, Louise, Greg, Ian, Simon, Tom, Tom and Rupert, without whom we would not have made it past Newbury.
Every yard of water covered was in aid of WellChild, which helps sick children overcome much greater challenges than ours (see left). The charity is working everyday - nursing sick children, supporting sick children and funding ground-breaking research to help save the lives of sick children.
Please support our success if you can - any size of donation would be gratefully received. .
See more details about the race at Devizes to London International Canoe Race. The race is variously described as an ultra-marathon or the Everest of canoe racing. What we know for sure is that its the longest non-stop canoe race in the world.
Donating throh Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: WellChild gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now - and make two old blokes feel it was worth the pain!
With thanks, David Snell & Richard Carlisle
