1 bicycle, 1 bumbling fool, 6 months, 6000 miles, 5 countries... a journey of a lifetime through South America on two wheels to raise awareness and hard cash for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign (charity number 518895).
My goal is to raise £10,000 towards the £2.5 million needed to fund a dedicated Breast Unit at Worcester Royal hospital.
My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and has since made a full recovery with the kindness, help, support and expertise of the doctors and nurses at the Royal Worcester Hospital but with a dedicated unit they will be able to provide:
More clinics with fewer people, reducing crowding and waiting.
Evening clinics.
Specialist clinics, for example, for men with breast conditions and for people at genetic risk of breast cancer.
Minor operations being performed on-site.
Flexible space and room availability allowing, for example: Complementary therapies, Gym and exercise  therapy, Dedicated space for support group meetings.
A quicker and more efficient service, which will have a positive impact on patients’ recovery and improve their outcomes in terms of general health and well-being.
People will be assessed and then have investigations in the same building: Investigative machines will be available every day exclusively for the breast unit. Ultrasound is currently only available for 2 half-day sessions per week.
Radiological results will be reported immediately, enabling the majority of people to be reassured and discharged.
A significant reduction in the number of return visits required.
Good news will be delivered more swiftly.
Being cared for and treated in a secure, private, stress-free and pleasant environment, again with an impact on their general health and well-being.
Services will be shaped through patient and user involvement, not to fit with the requirements of other services and the availability of space and equipment.
More staff continuity, with dedicated receptionists and out-patient nurses.
Supportive care provided by clinical nurse specialists as well as counselling services.
Space for education and information.
Car parking immediately outside.
