The Ride: I set off on my 350 mile five day cycle round the region on October 8 I left the Daily Echo offices at 8.00am, then was waved off at Wessex Cancer Trust in Westwood road. Glorious day. Arrived at Liphook at 2.30pm having covered 62miles. Day two I covered 73 miles on my way to Wootton Rivers, having been welcomed by the WCT Alton Group in their town. From here I was joined by my brother-in-law Doug Williams and and his neighbour Clare who cycled towards Newbury with me. Day three, morning, was joined by my son Matt on the ride to Luckington and for the last 3 miles by Jo and the grandchildren Charlie and Alfie. Sunday afternoon headed in pouring rain to Maiden Bradley. A 46 mile ride taking the total to 223 miles. Day four having spent a wonderful evening at my B&B and faced a number of Dorset hills. Arrived at Swanage around 4pm and enjoyed sitting on the beach in the afternoon sunshine. Day five, beautiful sunshine and enjoyed the seaside route at Bournemouth then to Lymington where I was joined by Richard Thomas and Jon Dudley for the Isle of Wight leg. Red Funnel delivered us back to Southampton to arrive at Wessex to a glorious reception at 3.45pm. The total mileage was 342 miles and the legs testify to it!
