Story
Hi everyone 😊
I’m so excited to tell you that I am going to volunteer in Uganda for 11 weeks. With Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) on an International Citizen Service (ICS) placement. It is such an incredible opportunity to make a real difference & I will be departing on the 10th May 2019.
As a whole, I feel the UK Is a country that gives us so much opportunity & support. And we’re so lucky to have that. I am going to be abandoning the many luxuries that I & many others, take for granted everyday by Living with a host family within the community, in order to fully immerse myself into the local culture. Hoping to give back to those who aren't able to access such opportunities & tackle some of the problems facing local communities in Uganda.
Uganda is one of the youngest nations in the world with well over half of its 37 million people being under 16 years old, This project is therefore a huge social opportunity to give their community the relevant skills for better incomes & more meaningful citizenship roles.
VSO ICS is a once in a lifetime volunteering opportunity backed by the UK Government. The programme has been fully funded by DFID (Department for International Development) who run the International Citizen Service (http://www.ics-uk.org.uk/about/). However, as part of my participation I am required to fundraise a minimum of £800 prior to my departure in May. Therefore the money raised, will go towards ICS, which will enable many more young people to volunteer on projects in the developing world & help fight poverty.
The more people we can reach, the greater impact we can have of fighting poverty.
This is my absolute dream & I will also be spending my 22nd birthday there. Which is going to be such an experience! I am so grateful that I am able to share my story with you. A donation no matter how small or large would be greatly accepted & will be making a real, huge difference.
Remember, even just £1 is almost 5,000 Ugandan shillings!
Please keep an eye out for the fundraising events I have planned in the near future. Thank you so much for your support guys, I will keep you all posted 😊
Ty xxx
