We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

WE DID IT!!!!

There were dramas along the way but the LUSH team completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 10 hours 35 minutes, a fantastic achievement on one of the hottest days of the year!

Simon and Amy were there at our pit stops with water and tea (yes some still wanted a cup of tea!), plasters and words of encouragement.

Many thanks to Gillian who took eight rather chatty, laid back, pretty slow walkers and somehow turned us into the super fast walkers we are today....BUT we do still like to chat!

A massive thanks to all who believed in us (even when we didn't!) and gave their money to such a worthwhile cause.  THANK YOU

Ruth, Mary, Angie, Max, Tanya, Caroline, Gill, Lynn and Hayley

.......10 hours 35 mins of temporary pain to help find a cure so that children with Type 1 won't have to live with the disease for a life time....

Amy Robinson is the 12 year old daughter of one of our walking group and she has Type 1 diabetes.  We are fundraising for JDRF, the charity who are looking for a cure for Type1, a lifelong condition.

On 27th May 2012 my friends and I are tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a rugged, high mountain walk with an overall ascent of 5202ft. It is a really tough walk covering varied terrains.  We are hoping to complete the walk in under 12 hours.  In preparation we have been walking regularly, upping the mileage each time we go out.

In November 2010 Amy's pancreas stopped producing insulin, the critical hormone that regulates blood glucose levels.

Amy therefore has to manually attempt to keep her blood glucose in the range day and night, constantly test her blood glucose, count every carbohydrate that she eats, inject insulin 4 times a day and run the risk of complications in later life.  Levels too low or too high can lead to serious illness or worse...

Many people are unaware that Type 1 is completely different to Type 2 diabetes. It currently affects about 350,000 people in the UK, and is expected to double in the next 10 years.

 Type 1 diabetes ...

* is NOT caused by eating too many sweets or the wrong kinds of food

* is NOT caused by being overweight

* is NOT the same as Type 2 diabetes

* does not mean that you can't eat sugar

* does not mean that your can't play sports

Someone with Type 1 needs multiple insulin injections or pump infusions every day just to stay alive.

Many thanks for your donation.
