Story

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page of the UCARE Kilimanjaro Challenge Team.  You can either donate here or make it more personal by visiting each member of the team's individual Justgiving page and links are on our web site.

We have to thank Jonathan for coming up with this idea of hiking up Kilimanjaro.  After having survived testicular cancer twice, he wanted to give something back by supporting research and education into urological cancers.  He also wanted to prove that you can carry on doing challenging things after you have been ill.

Andrew wanted to take on this challenge for very personal reasons too.  About 3 years ago he had a rare case of testicular cancer and complications resulted in him loosing his right leg below the knee.  "I feel that just because I've lost my leg, I'm no different to anyone else and so this is the challenge for me!" he says.

We are very grateful to Michael, Gemma and Matt who are joining them for their own personal reasons, and in support of UCARE.

As well as raising money, the team is raising awareness about testicular, prostate, kidney and bladder cancers.  Some of these cancers are difficult to talk about, especially those affecting men.

"It's important to raise awareness of urological cancers so that they are diagnosed at an early stage.  There is so much that can be done with some of the modern treatments available."  Dr Andy Protheroe, UCARE Trustee.
