Story

Firstly, as the time quickly approaches for us to leave, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been so generous to date - we really appreciate your support, especially in these difficult economic times. A special mention to those businesses that have given support as well as the large donation given by the people at New Life Church Romsey. Please be assurred that if we are fortunate enough to raise more than our target - then all of the additional amount will go for extra equipment & supplies in Uganda.

Also a special thank you to Donna Smith who was unfortunately not able to join us on the trip this time, but has been tirelessly collecting fantastic sports kit for the students in Wobulenzi.

For those of you who are being kind enough to visit this webpage for the first time, please read on.........

Our main project this time will be with 'The Wobulenzi Town Academy' (WTA) which was established in 2005, when the Headmaster/Director Charles Opio saw that teenage children were in a desperate situation due to the conflict in the north of the country around his home town of Lira. Establishing the school meant teenagers were able to escape life in the camps, poverty and constant fear of abduction and its subsequent brutality. It allows the poorest to pursue secondary education where, without the WTA, they would not have any.

There are presently 130 pupils: 70 girls and 60 boys between the ages of 13 – 20 in four classes. The pupils are either orphans or have only one parent who is unable to support them (a result of HIV/AIDS or the conflict in the North). The school plans to expand to take in 400 students as soon as they have the buildings/space to support this.

To see an aerial photo of the school (in the centre of the photo) and local area please click on the link    http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=h&ll=0.734733,32.529756&spn=0.006898,0.014076&z=17

In addition, we will be working with a small local nursery, orphange and clinic - phew! More details will be posted shortly.

Our itinerary will include teaching, building painting, building renovation such as flooring, roofing, windows, fitting electrical fittings, water catchment and we will be transporting as many school and medical provisions as we can carry out there.

We have set ourselves a hefty team target of £15,000. This amount has been budgeted to cover all of the trip costs including all of the materials and supplies that we are going to use. Every pound raised above our target will get spent on additional supplies and equipment. Please note that each team member has already chipped in to cover the costs of their flights etc.

Donating through this website is very simple, fast, secure and straightforward. It is also a very efficient way to sponsor us; ServeUganda will receive your donation fast, and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% of tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost to yourself.  When adding a donation, please indicate who specifically on the team your are sponsoring in the comments section if applicable - thanks.

Alternatively, you may prefer to donate by sending a cheque - please make any cheques out to 'The Dugdale Charitable Trust' and send it to (please indicate when sending if you need a receipt):
