British 10k London Run 2008 · 6 July 2008 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

In July 2008 I'll be doing the British 10k London Run. I'm doing this to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society. I chose the Alzheimer's Society because Alzheimer's steals the people we love, respect and care about, and puts immense strain on all those around them.  The disease is indiscriminate - its the sort of lottery you really don't want to win.

Will I outpace Rincewind or have feet of clay? Only time will tell. The route is 6 and a bit miles in old money. I'm hoping to complete it in 1 hr 20 minutes or under - not exactly an Olympic pace, but quite fast enough for me!

The route itself runs through the heart of London - starting at Piccadilly I'll head through Pall Mall down to the Embankment, running along the north bank of the Thames until I reach Tower Bridge. The route then doubles back along the Embankment, heading back up through Whitehall and ending at Buckingham Palace. Why not come along and watch the race?

Running won't find a cure for Alzheimer's, but your donations will help fund research into that cure,  care and support for those suffering from it, as well as providing respite support for their carers (often elderly and vulnerable themselves).  With your support the Alzheimer's Society can stretch that little bit further and make a difference to more lives.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

Ruth
