We brighten the lives of seriously ill young people by granting wishes and providing ongoing support. Our wishes are as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a fireman, meet a real-life mermaid or even the Loch Ness Monster, we work hard to make that wish come true.

Story

Hi to all

My name is Nigel Morris. I am an overweight, unfit 45yr old truck driver.I have tried many times over the years to lose weight and regain some fitness, but after a short time I fell back into my old routine and gained many extra pounds in the process! My youngest daughter now lives in Austria with her partner and their twins. So to lose weight I am going to cycle from the UK to Austria  and raise money for "Rays of Sunshine" childrens charity.

Challenge 1 - To lose 50Kg

This is going to be a long and hard challenge from someone so overweight and unfit but I AM DETERMINED to do it!

I have enlisted the help of a personal trainer Justin Murr who has offered his services free of charge to help me achieve my goal. Also, No1 Fitness Centre in Crosshills have kindly agreed to let me train at their gym free of charge.

Challenge 2

The route will start from my home in Steeton, West Yorkshire where I will be heading for Hull and a ferry to Rotterdam. Once I have regained my land legs, since I have never done an overnight crossing on a ferry this may take a while. I will then be heading for Assen to meet up with friends, Henk  who competes in triathlons and Eldo who is a long distance runner  so "im tired" will not be an excuse for an early night

After a good night with friends, a good sleep and some suikerbrood (sugar bread) for breakfast kindly supplied by Eldo I will be on my way again. From Assen I will be heading for the German border into the Niedersachsen region. Then travelling  pretty much down the centre of Germany heading for the Bavarian region. I will hopefully be crossing the German/Austrian border at Passau, then heading cross country into the lower Austrian region. I shall arrive at my destination of Vitis hopefully in one piece, pounds lighter and a whole load of money raised for my chosen charity.
