WOW this is incredible, we have very nearly reached our fundraising goal! We have been amazed by the generousity and the sheer number of people who have contributed to our effort to provide a teenager with a specialised wheelchair. We feel that this cause has really struck a chord with everyone we've talked to, even our young relatives have generously donated some of their hard-earned pocket money! Thank you all for the support and donations you have given, it kept us going through rainy Germany and will help "move a life forward". For a blow-by-blow account of our adventure, please check out our blog at www.uktodk.wordpress.com

20th August 2011

We did it!! Today we arrived in a blur of Whizz-Kidz green jerseys and a whiff of cycling gear at St Alban Church Fete, Copenhagen. We received a very warm welcome from all the well wishers that had assembled to welcome us at the end of our epic journey. We were grateful for the burgers and cold beers that were thrust in to our hands whilst we answered the questions of the enthusiastic crowd and journalists. Going to bed that evening we felt a real sense of achievement, so much so that none of us stirred till noon the next day!

4th August 2011

Set off on the 3rd August 2011 from Kings Parade, Cambridge, in front of Kings College. The sun was shining and people came to support us which meant we had a great send off! We've raised lots of money already but our final aim is £5,900 and we still haven't made it yet. So, if you are thinking of donating please do, as Whizz-Kidz is such a worth while charity and really improves the quality of disabled children's lives all across England.

We've uploaded some photos of our send off onto our blog page: http://uktodk.wordpress.com/photos/. We will try and update our blog as often as possible along the way so do check it regularly!

21st July 2011

Wow!!! Overwhelmed by the generosity of those supporting us, 2 weeks before we set off, we have almost reached our target. THANK YOU!!

Please don't stop giving, with the average specialised wheelchair costing nearer £5,900, we are hoping to build on this fantastic start and to get as near to that as possible.

June 2011

This August James, Max and Marcus will bicycle across Europe (over 1000 miles!!) to raise money for a brilliant charity called Whizz Kidz. Whizz Kidz make specialised wheelchairs for paraplegic and quadraplegic children, allowing them to get around more easily, and giving them more independence and freedom. The wheelchairs are made from titanium, making them much more lightweight than the standard NHS ones, but they are also much more expensive so many children cannot afford to have one. In fact, 70,000 disabled children and young people still don’t have a wheelchair appropriate to their needs. That’s where Whizz-Kidz comes in – by providing them with vital mobility equipment they help to transform their lives.

The sponsored bike ride consists of cycling from Oundle (our school) to Copenhagen. We will travel through England, Holland, Germany and finally Denmark, covering a distance of around 1,000 miles! We set off on the 4th August and arrive in Copenhagen on the 20th.

May 2011

Recently, we have won the schools top Dudgeon Venture Award. This will go towards funding the bike ride and ensuring that all 100% of the money raised will go straight to Whizz Kidz and not in any way towards the expenses of the trip. We really think this is a worthwhile charity to support – you would be going a long way to improving people’s lives if you donated any sum of money, large or small, so that we can make a difference.
