Ruth and Ulric Jessop a.k.a. the Balti Beaumettes are doing a rickshaw race from the South of India to Kathmandu to raise money for charity.
The race starts on the 1st of January 2008 from Cochin, Kerala right in the southern tip of India. It then goes up the entire length of India to finish in Kathmandu, Nepal on the 16th of January. More information about the race can be found here. The principal beneficiary of the Rickshaw Run is the Mercy Corps. Founded in 1979, the Mercy Corps’s aim is to help people to help themselves. Today, Mercy Corps is working in India to build community collaboration and fulfil dire health and economic needs. The Himalayan foothills around Darjeeling, are home to some of the world's finest teas - and some of Asia's poorest families. Therefore the Rickshaw Run focuses on five projects in particular in that area. Check out their website for more details.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mercy Corps Scotland will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Please note that all money raised goes to charity. The running costs of the event are financed completely separately.
For further information about Ruth and Ulric or to contact either of them, visit: www.pottyplace.com. Many thanks for your support.
