Hi
Thanks for visiting my page. I decided I was going to run and train when I found out Gideon was ill with Cancer back in Nov/Dec in the hope that he would see me run the marathon and join me with uncle lard style curry and a beer after the finish. However, as you all know he declined very quickly and passed away on March 19th 2011.
My dedication however, to run in his memory remains strong and after seeing how well the Martletts took care of the old boy I am really enthusiastic in raising as much as I can for the hospice between now and September. I have also been recently offered a place through the Martletts for London 2012 maraton so have extended this page for 2012 in the hope I can continue fundraising after September and raise even more for the Martletts Hospice.
For those that are not aware of the Martletts they take tremendous care for people with Cancer and other serious illnesses across the local community however, they are not part of the NHS. Infact they only receive 30% of their funding from the NHS which this leaves them with a shortfall to raise every year of over £3 million. As you can see the help and financial support from individuals and community groups are essentual for their set up and peoples fantastic generousity. To find out more about how they care for their patients please take a look at their website at www.themartlets.org.uk
If anyone is interested please look me up on facebook glenn_boorer@hotmail.co.uk for a peak at my training progression and I will also regularly post messages on here with any news on my training. I am currently up to 9miles with 15 weeks left to train so well on course so hopefully see and hear from you all before the 4th September.
Thanks for taking the time to read my page :o)
Kind regards
Glenn
My charity
The Martlets Hospice
Charity Registration No. 802145
The Martlets Hospice provides end of life care for adults with a life limiting disease such as Motor Neuron Disease and Cancer where a cure is no longer possible. This care aims to relieve the symptoms associated with serious illness and includes emotional support for families and carers of patients through the illness and into bereavement. Our facilities and services include an 18-bedded inpatient unit, bereavement and counselling services and a Hospice @ Home service. We help 500 patients each year and help around 1000 local families. Hospice care is completely free of charge to patients and families – but of course it is not free to provide. The Hospice is a local independent charity and relies upon the generosity of its users and all sections of the community to fund patient care.
