The Unicorn is the UK’s leading professional theatre for young audiences. We are committed to producing exceptional theatre changing perspectives and challenging how we see and understand each other. We ensure that all children can attend and subsidise 10% of tickets to schools and community groups.

Story

Based on London’s South Bank, the Unicorn is Britain’s flagship theatre for young people.  Our primary commitment is to working with disadvantaged children to promote curriculum learning through the arts. All our work emphasises the vital role that the arts play in enriching young people’s learning.

At the heart of our building and our work is our hugely successful youth theatre. All our members either live or go to school in Southwark and Tower Hamlets. No previous drama skills or experience are required for the Youth Theatre, only commitment, enthusiasm and the ability to work as part of a team.

The Unicorn runs three Youth Theatre groups for 10-16 year olds and the Unicorn Young Company for 16-19 year olds. The focus is on working with young people though participatory drama to enable participants to realise the possibility of change. Young people are encouraged to build their self-esteem, develop communication with adults and peers and express themselves creatively.

With our current funding currently on hold because of the financial downturn, our very own Emma Higham (Unicorn’s Youth Theatre Manager) is running to raise money for the wonderful young people who she works with every week.

Please also spare a thought for our second team member, and Georgina Keeling, from our neighbour, Ernst & Young who has a knee injury and has had to withdraw. Our thanks to Georgina who is still fundraising on crutches!

So help us on our way to the finishing line by sponsoring Emma today!
