We provide the support needed to give homeless young people a future

Story

The discomfort of being homeless hits hardest at this time of year, customarily most of us think of Christmas as time for family, food, fun and relaxation but for many people in London it is a totally different story. Recent statistics show that in London alone 6,437 people were seen sleeping rough in 2012-13, compared to 5,768 the previous year, showing a 13% rise year on year. In total there has been a 62% since 2010-11. (TheGuardian.com).

This month, UPRISE TV will air a special Christmas episode on the 23rd December to raise awareness of the growing issue in our capital. For the first time on OH TV, all members of the UPRISE MOVEMENT; Faith Child, Mercedes, Victizzle, Utter Once, A Star, Deborah and Mark Happi will take part in a sleep out on the streets of London! For 12 hours, the team will attempt to experience the life and struggles of being homeless and reach out to people living on the streets.

The episode will also feature the outreach efforts of other organisations such as Jesus Loves Me, Centrepoint, The Big Issue and the work of students at Enfield Grammar School. Watch as Faith Child and Mercedes speak to The Big Issue CEO Stephen Robertson about the initiatives the organisation have in place to help people in difficult situations.

Do not miss out on the special episode Uprise Sleepout special on Monday 23rd December at 18:30 GMT.
