Story

Thank you for visiting the UVHAA online donations page.

UVHAA is the Umdoni and Vulamehlo HIV/AIDS Association.

UVHAA's  mission is to fight HIV/AIDS and Poverty in the Umdoni and Vulamehlo municipalities of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.

Around 148,000 people live in these deeply rural and impoverished municipalities.

There are an estimated 6,500 orphans, many more vulnerable children, and some of the worst HIV/AIDS statistics in the world.

Established in 2002, UVHAA now have three vehicles which transport nurses and teams of healthcare workers deep into the rural hills and valleys providing Home Based Care and access to treatment to people who would otherwise often be condemned to a slow, painful and isolated death.

Our staff identify and locate people living with HIV/AIDS, and orphans and vulnerable children whose lives have been torn apart by the effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

We help people understand how to access and correctly take treatment. We deliver food parcels to destitute people who are going hungry. We clothe and feed orphans, pay for their school fees and uniforms and help them to access government grants. We teach rural people better ways to grow vegetables in homestead gardens and at rural child care centres and help people to establish small income generation projects.

Crusaid have been one of UVHAA's biggest supporters since 2005, funding a large percentage of our work through their International Fund. Crusaid have kindly assisted us to set up this fundraising page in order to help us to receive donations from individual supporters in the UK.

There are many critical needs facing our staff every day, and a lack of sufficient funding often means we are unable to assist those who desperately need our help.

This appeal aims to enlist 1000 people who can afford to donate at least £5 per month.

This would make a tremendous difference to the work we do, and save many, many lives.

Please become a regular supporter of UVHAA by making a donation today.*

Here are some examples of how your donation could be spent:

£5 could pay for a vulnerable child to attend a child care centre for one month

£10 could buy 2 blankets for a sick person during the cold winter

£25 could  buy 4 orphaned children warm winter clothes

£50 could  feed a destitute family of 6 living with HIV/AIDS for two months

£100 could  feed 20 under school age children in a child care centre for 3 months

£1000 could pay for building a toilet block and a kitchen block at a child care centre where these facilities do not exist

£5000 could pay for one year’s salary for a full time professional nurse, making around 800 home visits a year to care for people living with HIV/AIDS

£10,000 could  pay for a 4x4 vehicle transporting UVHAA nurses to the rural communities for years to come, making thousands of visits and saving numerous lives.

This page has been set up thanks to Crusaid UK.

100% of your donation will be transferred by Crusaid directly to UVHAA in South Africa.

To cover their costs, and to comply with UK tax law, GiftAid will be retained by Crusaid.
