Why I am Running a (42km) Marathon for Arthritis... Firstly, Arthritis runs in my family. Both my Grandma and Mum have Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease without any cure. Secondly, as someone who’s broken a few bones (six if you’re counting) at various points in my life, I understand how excruciating 'bone' pain can be. Osteoarthritis research has come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Having witnessed my family live with this disease and the pain that it causes them, I’ve decided to run a marathon for the cause. Proceeds from the campaign will go directly to Arthritis Research UK which is a forward thinking non-profit and is very transparent with their spending. I also wholeheartedly support their mission to fund science & research for solutions and ultimately a cure. Katrina has been affected by arthritis since she was only two years old and is limited in her abilities. Together, both women help raise awareness and continuously provide an extensive range of events and programs to support arthritis patients. And last but not least, I’d like to thank you for helping me on my journey of attempting to complete a marathon, while raising money for a cause that is not only personal to me, but one I truly believe in. On January 21st, 2011, I will be running my very first Marathon – The Standard Chartered 42km (<a href="http://www.gothedistance.ae/scb/Reason.aspx?fileid=389" target="_blank">dedicated to my Mother & grandmother</a>). I am hoping that with your help, I’ll be able to raise over £3000 for Arthritis Research UK. UPDATE: Myself and some of the Emirates Arthritis Foundation runners will be wearing green capes to signify “Superheroes for Arthritis” during the entire 42kms! In an effort to illustrate the power of micro-giving I've decided to ask for 300 pledges of £10, or 150 donations of £20 each.
