I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who sponsored me for this challenge, I am overwhelmed by your generosity. The race went well and I was 34th overall out of 754 covering the 8.68 kilometres in a time of 1 hour 7 minutes 27 seconds. Thanks to Darren`s support and expert advice with my training plan and race tactics. Please click on the link below to see the photos.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My husband Dave has battled with Parkinson’s for over 30 years and I am a Volunteer Educator for Parkinson’s UK, so I am well aware that a good knowledge of this life changing condition improves the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and their carers. I also know that there is a big training need to improve understanding of this misunderstood condition. The Education and Training Department of Parkinson’s UK is working hard to address this issue and I want to help. So, for the first time in my life as an OAP I have been motivated to enter a race. On the 5th of October 2014 I will be competing in the Murtenlauf in the hills of Switzerland, raising money to help fund Education Days for health care professionals raising awareness of the needs of people living with Parkinson’s.
This will be the 81st Murtenlauf making it Switzerland's oldest road race. It celebrates the legend of the Murten runner who ran the course from Murten to Fribourg with news of a battle in 1476. I will be competing in the 8.68km speed walk, I wanted to do something a little different and give myself a personal challenge that won’t be easy. I have to learn the skill of speed walking on a hilly terrain and I can be seen around the streets of Tavistock and on Dartmoor training to meet this challenge. Luckily I am fit enough to do this unlike many of my friends living with Parkinson’s who are members of Tavistock’s Parkinson’s UK Support group. These friends have given many examples of how their lives could have been made easier if the problems people with Parkinson’s face were fully understood by others. Little things that people do can make a big difference to someone with Parkinson’s.
All the money I raise will be given to The South West Education and Training Department of Parkinson’s UK to help with this vital work. Please help by sponsoring me as I take on this challenge.
