All in aid of Duke's Barn - an amazing facility for people with disabilities. We have just had an amazing day there, canoeing, river walking and assault/ropes course.
Pete and I are also doing it in memory of Donn Mabbs, who I used to work with at Parkwood School and who co-founded Duke's Barn.
This is their blurb............
whatever your ability - go for it!
At Dukes Barn, we look beyond a person's disability - we simply regard people as having different levels of ability.
We consider that everyone, regardless of ability, should have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities and enjoy and enrich themselves through personal achievement.
That's why we place great emphasis on a policy of inclusion, wherever feasible.
People of widely different abilities and ages take part in the activities at the same time. Challenge by choice is a concept we embody in our planning.
We are among a small number of centres who can deliver courses in British Sign Language.
In practice, we make programmes to account for each individual's requirements and challenge their abilities.
Often, a slight adjustment on the part of our instructors is all that's needed to deliver a programme that can be enjoyed by everybody. This way, everyone is able to participate fully in the fun, challenge, excitement and rewards of our programmes.
We are a member of
Adventure for All - an affiliation of Outdoor Centres whose primary purpose is to deliver adventure activities for disabled people.
