Varsity March 2012 · 6 June 2012

A cafe for homeless and vulnerably-housed people aged 25+ in the centre of Oxford. Open six days a week in the early evening. We provide a wide range of support services and advice as well as simple, nutritious food and drink. In other words, a community centre for those who have no community.

Story

The Varsity March is an 81 mile / 130 km walk between Oxford and Cambridge, completed in under 48 hours, involving members of Cambridge University Rambling Club and Oxford University Walking Club.

Team members so far are: Alan Iwi, Antonina Votintseva, Barney Stratford, Daniel Paine, David Vasak, Heidi Russenberger, Matthew Ford, Olaf Kähler, Steven Smith and Tehnuka Ilanko.

The route passes through five counties (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire), walking on a mixture of public footpaths and quiet country roads. Stops are made for meals and for short breaks, but we continue walking through the night without sleep! This year we will again be supporting Jimmy's Night Shelter in Cambridge and The Gatehouse in Oxford. We would appreciate equal donations to both charities, via the this page and our other page for Jimmy's Night Shelter. Details of the itinerary, how to participate, and live GPS tracking during the event, are available at http://www.varsitymarch.org.uk.
