Story

Job done. The hardest cycling challenge I have ever attempted for sure, the heat, the pain, the unrelenting gradient. It took me over eight hours to complete the three ascents, descents, and the cycling to the start point and back to our hotel - around 100 miles.

In all I completed nearly 15,000ft of ascent in temperatures that topped 30 degrees (mind you we were relatively lucky as it can reach nearly 40!)

If you saw the Tour de France recently you’ll have seen mountain climbs just like this one.

On 29 July I and eleven other idiots rode up, for the benefit of PACE, the infamous Mont Ventoux (the Giant of Provence) 3x times in only one day by each of the road routes. It’s called the Cinglés Cycle Challenge (quite literally meaning ‘screwball’).

Ventoux is seriously tough, many riders say the hardest ride they have ever done. In 1967 Britain’s most famous professional cyclist: Tommy Simpson rode himself to death within sight of the summit. On a happier note, Tommy was tested positive, well for pretty much most things really, so rest assured I and my team mates will be ‘clean’ apart from plenty of Isotonic drinks and copious amounts of glucose rich chewy bars!

So how can you help? You can help me reach my £1000 fundraising total, I think it was worth it don’t you!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep, donate now and support the great work at PACE.
