Every year since 1912, a group of people have taken part in a footrace in San Francisco called Bay To Breakers, so named because it starts from the Bay of San Francisco and ends at the 'breakers' of the Pacific Ocean, 12km across the heart of the city.
The race attracts upwards of 75,000 participants, from serious athletes to outrageous costumes only San Francisco could spawn. And this year, their numbers will be swelled by half a dozen or so more racers under the V-Flyer Banner.
Our own 'serious athletes', preiffer and mcmbenjamin are joined this year by Pete, RichardMannion, HighFlyer, Juliet and Wolves27. There's also a chance that Decker will put down his lexicon for an hour or two and join in the fun. And it's not too late for you to don your running shoes either, as registration is open at the official website up until the day before the race.
The race starts in the downtown area, follows Market Street to Ninth, then tracks Hayes Street Hill and Fell until it hits the Golden Gate Park, picking up John F. Kennedy Drive all the way to the finish line.
And because this rather foolhardy attempt at keeping fit shouldn't go unnoticed, we are supporting the Virgin Unite charity, Sekenani School..
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Virgin Unite will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
