ING New York City Marathon 2010 · 7 November 2010 ·

500 miles helps people in Malawi & Zambia who have impaired mobility as a result of amputation, deformity, illness or accident by supplying artificial limbs and splints & braces for all-comers, but especially the poor. Our focus, through training, is development of sustainable in-country services.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you all know, my original plan was the New York Marathon, but money's in short supply this year.  Anyway, at the beginning of 2010 I had signed up for 7 races, and I have managed all but New York.  I have completed the Sport Relief 6 mile, the Dunbar 10k, the Bupa Edinburgh 10k, the Edinburgh Half Marathon, the Edinburgh 26.2 mile Moon Walk, and the Edinburgh 26.2km Kilomathon.  That means I've competed over a total of 73 miles or 118km, and done much more than that in training.  So, for anyone who hasn't sponsored me yet, now's your chance.  Even a pound helps.  I know times are tight for everyone at the moment, but please give what you can.

You can read all about 500 Miles in the link on the left, but please also take the time to look at the additional photos I have posted here - they are a fantastic testament to 500 Miles' work.

Just £60 can pay for the supply and fitting of a good quality prosthesis or orthosis by a trained technician either in Kamuzu, Malawi or in Lusaka, Zambia.

Just £100 can pay for a life-transforming orthopaedic or reconstructive operation by an experienced surgeon, funded by 500 Miles and delivered through FlySpec

I have agreed with 500 Miles that all the money I raise will be used specifically to fund treatment for children - mainly because I am aware of how lucky my own children are to (a) have full mobility, and (b) to have access to free, high-quality healthcare if they ever need it.  Please support me in helping children who are not so fortunate - my target of £6000 could fund 100 good quality prostheses, or 60 life-changing operations.

Please give whatever you can afford, and keep checking in for updates on my progress.

Thanks again!

Vic
