Ashgate Croft School is the largest of ten special schools in

Derbyshire and offers a full range of education and activities for

students with special needs aged 2 to 19 years.  To allow the

school to broaden these services even further it is proposed that a

new teaching area will be created, this being an Independent

Living Base.

Skills and activities that will be learnt will include the following elements:

-         Making choices, what to eat and drink;

-         Counting how many people want what;

-         Setting a table;

-         Peeling or chopping;

-         Washing up;

-         Dusting;

-         Vacuum cleaning;

-         Using a washing machine;

-         Making meals;

-         Making a bed;

-         Budgeting.

The Independent Living Base replaces the school house which was at Boythorpe.  The money from the sale of the house will go towards the cost of building the Independent Living Base which will be £200,000 +.
